Grilled Lamb Burgers With Feta Tzatziki Sauce
When a plain hamburger becomes boring, serve your family and your guests flavorful Grilled Lamb Burgers with Feta Tzatziki Sauce…seasoned with fresh Greek herbs and lemon, these Mediterranean style burgers are juicy, delicious and different. Perfect sides that you might consider to accompany the lamb burgers would be marinated olives, a creamy Greek style yogurt potato salad, roasted red peppers, a tomato and cucumber salad dressed with a freshly made herbed vinaigrette or a flavorful orzo pasta salad.

Once you have tried these burgers served on a toasted bun with a flavorful feta Tzatziki sauce, I have a feeling that you will be preparing them often.
Grilled Lamb Burger
Serves 4 adjust the recipe accordingly.
-
1 to 1 1/4 lb. ground lamb
-
a small onion, finely chopped
-
1 clove of garlic, finely minced
-
2 Tbsp. finely chopped fresh mint
-
2 Tbsp. finely chopped fresh oregano
-
2 Tbsp. finely chopped fresh parsley
-
1 tsp. fresh lemon juice
-
1/2 tsp. lemon zest
-
1/2 tsp. cumin
-
sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
-
4 burger buns, brioche or kaiser rolls
Preheat your grill to medium high making sure the grill grates are clean and oiled so the burger doesn’t stick. Place the ground lamb into a bowl and mix well with the onion, garlic, herbs, lemon juice, zest and cumin. Form the mixture into four patties slightly larger than the buns. Push a slight dimple in the top of the patty. Season liberally with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. Place the burgers on grill, cover and cook about 4 to 5 minutes, depending on how rare or well-done you like it. Flip it over and cook another 4 to 5 minutes. (Do not press on the meat as it is cooking to retain juices). Brush the buns with a little olive oil or melted butter and grill until toasted. Assemble the burgers with a lamb patty and top with a dollop of the feta tzatziki sauce.
Feta Tzatziki Sauce
-
1 c. plain Greek Yogurt
-
1 small cucumber, peeled, seeded and finely diced
-
1 small garlic clove, minced
-
1 Tbsp. olive oil
-
1/4 c. crumbled feta cheese
-
1 tsp. fresh squeezed lemon juice
-
1 tsp. finely chopped fresh mint
-
1 tsp. finely chopped fresh dill
-
salt and pepper to taste
Lightly salt the diced cucumber and let drain in a sieve for at least 10 minutes to remove some of the liquid. Heat the olive oil and minced garlic slightly (I do this to mellow the flavor of the garlic but it is not necessary) then let cool. Mix all the ingredients together and refrigerate to let the flavors mingle. Taste, adjust the seasonings if necessary.

These easy to prepare Greek lamb burgers are a flavorful alternative to your customary beef burger and one I believe you will really enjoy trying. They make a great tasting dinner served with a couple of sides or an simple but tasty summer lunch. l As a matter of fact, when we are once again able to entertain, invite a group of friends over for a burger bar party. Cook several different kinds of burgers and set up a variety of your favorite condiments as well as a table of accompaniments and let everyone create their own meal. Once everyone tries a lamb burger, I think they will be wanting more.
If you enjoy lamb cooked on the grill, be sure to take a look at my Grilled Lamb Kebabs With Yogurt Sauce, Grilled Lamb Chops With Tapenade or my Mediterranean Grilled Lamb.
What a great idea. I’d love that meal 🙂
Thank you Kay, it is simple but really tasty.
Karen, the lamb burger looks delicious and I love the idea of the sauce. Thank for sharing your recipe!
Thank you Pam, I’m glad you like the recipe. The Tzatziki sauce adds so much flavor to the burger.
Thank you Pam, I’m glad you like the recipe. The Tzatziki sauce adds so much flavor to the burger.
These sound great, and I love the sides you suggest!
Thank you Penny for your nice compliment. I’m glad you like my suggestions for the sides, they would be perfect for a nice meal.
Looks delish!
Thank you Nancy.
Very funny. I just made Lamb kofas for dinner and served them with feta. Great combination of ingredients you have there Karen!
Hi Tania, It sounds like we both love the combination, thank you.
I’m not a fan of beefburgers, but that lamb burger with all those fabulous flavours really hits the spot!
BTW, your Gravitar picture icon seems to have disappeared.
Thank you Mad Dog, I’ve been having nothing but problems with WordPress since I’ve changed themes…hope it’s back up. I’m switching over to dot.com too and dreading it. I was locked out of WordPress over the weekend. Thank you for the help and the nice compliment on the lamb burger. 😘
In theory, switching should be OK if you use Jetpack, which contains a lot of the free WP functionality that you are used to. If you don’t like the new Block Editor, there is a free plugin that gives you back the classic interface, it’s called Classic Editor 😉
Thanks for all the encouragement and help. You would think it would be a piece of cake after all these years.
Sadly it isn’t always. Free WP gives you a specific set of options, whereas self hosted unlocks everything, to the point where you can write it all in code. Having said that, there are loads of free plugins, which can add functionality that isn’t otherwise available and most have simple interfaces with included help pages and forums.
Well I finally got the Gravitar back up but I can’t say I know how I did it. Thank you again for your help.
That’s one tasty burger, Karen! And your sides look great with it! Thanks, and take care.
It really is a tasty burger Pam, thank you. The sides really make it a meal.
With all the mint and Greek oregano we have growing, this burger with the tzatziki is a no brained for us. Before lockdown, I bought several pounds each of ground lamb and goat at the farmers market — glad I did! Also plan to make brioche buns this weekend, which will be perfect for this.
Your new theme is very nice, and I completely get the stress of change. When I went from Blogger to WP (and dot com) I thought I would implode. Still fixing things here and there and it’s been three months!
You are living proof that it can be done but boy it is certainly aggravating. 😁 It sounds like you have everything to make a great lamb burger. Enjoy!
I am surviving but it hasn’t been without stress. Good luck! Wish I were as good at the tech support as MadDog. But I can give you emotional support!
You two are terrific! My problem is that I don’t understand tech talk. 😊
Tzatziki sauce is wonderful! Love its flavor. And it goes extremely well with lamb. Haven’t had a lamb burger in ages, and now I’m craving the combo of the burger with Tzatziki sauce! Really nice — thanks.
I agree with you John, Tzatziki sauce and lamb are a perfect match. Thank you for your nice compliment.
We are huge lamb fans! What time is dinner? We will be right over.
Wouldn’t be nice if you could stop by for dinner, Bobbi. In the meantime…
I do not think I have ever had lamb minced in any dish that I can think of. Now to put lamb on the shopping list so I can mince it and make burgers 🙂 They sound delicious. Sound like you are having blog problems, good luck. Stay safe Diane
Do try lamb mince Diane, it is especially good when you use lots of fresh herbs in the mix. Yes, I have been having blogging problems for some time. I decided to try some changes so that I could leave comments with my friends on blogger. It is a work in progress at this point so I need all the luck I can. Thank you!
That looks great. My husband will love it. I have been hesitant to change themes. Or try the new editor thing..The graphics look great though!
Thank you Amelia, I hope your husband gets a chance to try one…my husband thought they were great. My theme was so old that it was no longer supported so I decided to make a change. I’m glad you like the new look, thank you! I’ve not even ventured into the new editor yet, I’m just trying to get this working well and will then transfer to dot.com. If the blog is going to give me problems, I thought I might as well do everything now.
The dot.com thing is very easy. My guess is my theme will probably be retired soon. Sigh.
I don’t really like lamb but would definitely have one of these if offered!
Like your new blog layout and the size of the pictures, Karen!
That is a real compliment Kiki, I really do think you would enjoy the burger. I’m glad you like the new blog layout, I’m happy with the look. There are just a few kinks to work out and then I’m taking it to my dot.com that has been waiting in the wings for 9 years. 😁 I can’t believe that we won’t be making a trip to Germany this fall although I did see that your country was opening up to the other EU countries.
I love Tzatziki sauce and feta and it seems to go with so many things. Your burger dinner looks delicious.and so Mediterranean.
Jovina, this is a meal that I believe you would enjoy and yes, it is indeed Mediterranean. Thank you.
lamb and Tzatziki are such good friends!
I have to agree with you about lamb and Tzatziki being a great match Dorothy. Thank you for your compliment.
Your recipe looks delicious, as they all do. And the Tzatziki sounds good with lots of things. Thanks!
Oh do I love lamb burgers! As always your recipes have that little something extra.
After reading about all the trouble with changing your blog I think I stay with my old blog. I love the Tzatziki sauce with the added feta cheese.
Absolutely love lamb patties and make tzatziki at least weekly ! Have not added my beloved feta or dill to the latter but prepare the lamb rather similarly to you. The olives and an orzo salad would really take one back to the Mediterranean . . . in my case I never make the patties into ‘burgers’ with a bun . . . unnecessary in my book ! A lovely send . . .
Another lovely one Karen. We are blessed in Ireland with the best lamb in the world. I will try these.
Conor – watched James Martin’s journey into Wales last night – he would strongly argue that the best lamb in the world is Welsh . . . ?! Sugar . . . when I was an immigrant kid in Oz it was supposed to be us ! Ha ! Well, I am on your side . . .
I think that sounds incredible. We love an adventurous burger.
Thank you Lea Ann, it is always fun coming up with a new burger. We really enjoyed the lamb burger a lot.
Yum Karen, I love tzatziki sauce, and the ground lamb burgers sound amazing!! Your new blog design looks great!
Jenna
Thank you Jenna, I think the lamb burgers might be something your family would enjoy over the summer. Thank you for the compliment about the new look for the blog. It is still a work in progress but it is getting there. 😊
I have some ground lamb in my freezer that I bought a few days ago. Burgers are the perfect thing! I was considering another idea, so thanks for this post and the yummy images Karen. I so hope you are well. T
Thank you for your compliment and wish Teresa. I do hope you enjoyed the lamb burger if you had a chance to try it.
Nice new look on the blog!
One of JTs favourite things on the menu of our favourite French Bistro is a lamb burger; as luck would have it, they were selling them flash frozen raw so I picked up 4 for his birthday dinner! Once I use up the other two, I’ll try your recipe.
Thank you Eva for the compliment about the new look for the blog…it is still a work in progress. I do hope JT likes the lamb burger if you get a chance to prepare the recipe.
This is a big favorite of mine! And love, love, love your new header photo. The travel issues have to be terrible for you…
First of all I love the makeover on your blog and those large colorful photos! That lamb burger looks beyond delicious, and your suggestions of a cucumber salad and roasted red peppers are really appealing. Thanks for the great ideas!
That picture looks so delicious. Thank you for posting this recipe.
