Der Kaiserhof, overlooks the quaint village of Ellmau, with wonderful views of the Wilder Kaiser mountains in the Tyrol region of Austria. The charming hotel welcomes guests with genuine hospitality and offers spacious modern rooms, classic food and an award winning spa area.

Der Kaiserhof, a 5 star superior family run hotel, is located on a hill above picturesque Ellmau at just over 3000 feet above sea level. The hotel, with its breathtaking panoramic views of the Wilder Kaiser mountains has been on our bucket list for some time as it is considered to be one of the best wellness hotels in the Tirol. This year we had the opportunity to spend four nights at the Kaiserhof and use it as a base for exploring the Wilder Kaiser region that is said to have some of Austria’s most beautiful small towns. The hotel is also very convenient if you would like to make day trips to Kitzbühel, Kufstein and Zell am See and it is only about an hour’s drive from Innsbruck, Salzburg and Munich.

The award winning Kaiserhof has received four lilies (the highest rating) by the Relax Guide, 2 toques in the Gault Millau guide and voted one of the best hotels in Austria 2023 by Travel and Leisure for “its easy access to Austria’s largest ski area in the winter and a wealth of other mountainous outdoor activities in the warmer months“.

Upon our early arrival, we were welcomed with cold refreshing towels, a glass of sparkling wine and beer and were shown to the afternoon snack buffet which we enjoyed on the lovely terrace while we waited for our room to be made ready. The 52 rooms and suites at the Kaiserhof are all a little different in size and decor but one thing they all have in common are the wonderful views of the dramatic and magnificent Wilder Kaiser mountains and the Kitzbühel Alps.

Our large modern suite had a living room and a separate bedroom, with bare white plaster walls, wooden floors and ceilings, modern wooden cabinetry, furniture upholstered in amber and emerald green velvet and two wall mounted TVs. There was a large walk-in closet and luggage area, a large bathroom with both a huge bathtub and a walk-in rain shower and a separate toilet and sink. There was a large balcony that extended the length of both rooms. As a welcome gift, two aluminum water bottles were placed in the living room to use during our stay at the hotel and to take home with us.
The Kaiserhof offers guests everything you would want for a pleasant holiday. At an evening welcome cocktail party, guests are greeted by hotel owner Bianca Lampert and her staff where they explained the weekly program of leisure as well as sports activities that you could join such as walking tours of Ellmau or guided hikes in the nearby mountains, all included in the room rate. It is also possible to reach all the nearby villages, hiking trails and mountain cable cars easily by bus free of charge with the Wilder Kaiser Guest Card that you can get at the hotel.

If you want to spend your time relaxing as we did, you can simply enjoy the surrounding nature from the lovely terraces or spend time in their large four floor spa tower. The spa tower is for adults only and has a panoramic event sauna, a panoramic bio sauna, Finnish sauna, a brine steam bath and relaxation rooms. There is also a beautiful adult only infinity pool on the top floor of the spa with a wonderful view of the mountains.
As you know, food is always an important part of our travel experience and at the Kaiserhof, meals are all included in the room rate. There is a large breakfast buffet and an afternoon snack buffet with savory hot and cold dishes as well as sweet cakes and pastries. In the evening, a 6 course varied menu is served.

There are several dining rooms but when the weather is nice, most guests choose to dine on the panorama terrace. Before or after dinner, guests can have a cocktail at the Skybar that has a beautiful backlit onyx and wood bar and comfortable seating where you can sit and enjoy the unique views of the the mountains.

The Kaiserhof hotel, with its mixture of traditional and modern Alpine style, offers something for everyone. It is located in a beautiful area of Austria and is one that will not disappoint those seeking either relaxation or adventure. The gracious and sincere hospitality shown to us by the lovely owner and host Bianca Lampert and her personable staff, made our stay very memorable.
Another amazing dream vacation! You only go to the BEST resorts and luxurious places! The photos are simply breathtaking, and the food is incredible. Thanks for sharing, I can’t even imagine what it is like to stay at a place like this!
