Hotel Post Lermoos, For A True Taste of the Tyrol
Spectacular mountain views, spacious suites, wonderful spa and wellness facilities are reasons enough to stay at Hotel Post Lermoos. Add award winning food and wine, and the courteous hospitality of the staff and you have all the reasons the Post is one of Austria’s best wellness hotels.
After months of planning and two flights later, my husband and I arrived in the beautiful Tyrol region of Austria. The first stop on our three week holiday was at the Hotel Post, in the small town of Lermoos. One of our favorite hotels, it was the perfect place to let our bodies acclimate to the 6 hour time change and recover from major jet lag.
The Post is a family run hotel that can trace its history back to 1560. It’s is a traditional alpine country hotel that has been lovingly decorated in a typical Tyrollean style. Since our first stay, the Dengg family have updated their hotel several times with new furniture and fabrics but what remains the same is the fantastic view of the Zugspitze and surrounding mountains.

The view can be enjoyed from many areas of the hotel as well as from most all of the suite balconies. I should mention that the price of your room includes a full breakfast, a light lunch, cakes in the afternoon and in the evening you are served a six course gourmet meal. When it is a lovely day, the fabulous restaurant terrace is one of my favorite places to have an afternoon pastry and take in the mountain view.
On our first evening, we were welcomed back to the hotel by family member Johanna Dengg, and shown to our lovely dinner table. This was our 7th visit to the hotel and it was so nice to see all the familiar faces of the staff that we have met over the years.
After being seated, we were greeted by food and beverage manager/sommelier Almin Begic. We asked if he would suggest a wine to go along with our evening meal. He choose a Netzl 2019 “Oida Schwoaza” that had an aroma of berries, chocolate and coffee and had soft tannins and a lot of body. It went perfectly with the choices we had made for our dinner.

My husband started with a veal tartar and when I told Almin that I was going to skip that course, he said the chef could prepare a vegetable version. They were both delicious and came topped with a brown bread chip, pickled vegetables and truffle mayonnaise. Our second course was light basil cream soup, then a main course of pink roasted duck breast, rice balls, baby bok choy, and mustard cabbage. After a short pause we finished with an incredible light Valrhona Macae chocolate cake with cherry sorbet. All of this wonderful food was served at a table with the Zugspitze in the background.
Chef Thomas Strasser, manager Almin Begic and the entire kitchen and restaurant teams made sure that every meal during our three nights at the Post were all just as memorable. As you can see from the photos, the chefs creations are beautiful works of art. It is easy to see why the restaurant’s culinary awards include 3 hoods (toques) by Gault Millau, 3 forks by Falstaff and 4 (A La Carte) stars.

Of course you can’t stay at the Post without a visit to the huge Post Alpin SPA and the rejuvenating wellness center. During our stay, I treated myself to both a sugar scrub and a massage to help my body recover from jet lag and having traveled almost 24 hours before arriving in Austria. Included in your stay, guests can make use of the panoramic pine sauna house that has a fantastic view of the mountain landscape and an outdoor brine pool as well as another indoor and outdoor pool, the sauna world with steam baths, relaxation rooms, a large workout room and a beauty salon.

If you are an outdoors person there is plenty to do with miles of hiking trails, trails for bikes, mountain bikes as well as golf at the nearby Golf Club Tiroler Zugspitze. If you are really brave (not me), there is the spectacular rope suspension bridge called the “Highline 179”. For those not as daring, if it is a clear day, I suggest a cablecar ride to the top of the Zugspitze.
If you would like to explore the area, you can also easily do a day trip to the historic old town of Innsbruck, the state capital of the Tyrol. The Post is also not far from the nearby border with Bavaria and is perfect for visits to King Ludwig’s royal castles, the Neuschwanstein, Hohenschwangau and the Linderhof. Also nearby, are the charming Bavarian towns of Mittenwald and Oberammergau.

All to quickly, our three night stay at the Hotel Post came to an end and it was time to say our goodbyes. We left refreshed and rejuvenated, hoping that we have the opportunity to return again. Hotel Post is indeed a fantastic hotel.
The „Zugspitz Arena“ is a very nice place overall (with other nice hotels, by the way) with a wide choice of outdoor activities. In Summer, I recommend to take a swim in the beautiful „Blindsee“ lake.
What a stunning sunset on those mountains! Yet another fabulous hotel – the food looks delicious and I love the antler lighting featue.

The Tyrol region is so beautiful, with is flat green ribbon-like valleys, and towering rocky mountains. When you have a quiet hour sometime (does anyone have a quiet hour anymore?), close your eyes and listen to Richard Strauss’ Alpine Symphony, which he wrote at his summer house in the Tyrolean town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. A little-known tone poem.
What…me envious? Well – maybe just a tad! Enjoy my friends.

I must say, your stay at the Hotel Post in Lermoos, Austria, sounds absolutely enchanting. 🏔️ It’s like something out of a dream with those spectacular mountain views. The combination of traditional Tyrolean style, delicious cuisine, and wellness facilities makes it an ideal destination. Aslo the photos of the dishes are like artwork, and the chef’s creations are indeed visually stunning. It’s no wonder the restaurant has received numerous culinary awards.
