Jagdhof Röhrnbach, An Award Winning Bavarian Hotel

5 min read apples4sell

The Jagdhof is a fantastic wellness retreat and is one of 25 hotels in Germany to receive the TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice “Best of the Best” Award.. Only 30 minutes away from Passau, the Jagdhof is in a quiet location in the middle of the village of Röhrnbach in the Bavarian Forest.

Bavaria is one of the most popular holiday regions in Germany, yet you have probably never heard of the Bavarian Forest or the award winning 5-star Hotel Jagdhof Röhrnbach. The Ritzinger family owned Jagdhof is one of our favorite German hotels where we feel absolutely comfortable and really relax. Only a 1 and 1/2 hour drive from the Munich airport, it lies in a triangle bordering Germany, Austria and Czech Republic. It is a region with a picturesque landscape of rolling hills and low mountains surrounded by ancient forests where nature is left to take its course without human interference.

No matter how much we love to travel, fatigue eventually kicks in on even the most relaxing of holidays. When I planned this year’s three week European trip, I knew that the Jagdhof Hotel, which specializes in offering their guests a relaxed and revitalizing experience, would be the perfect place for our last three days. At the end of our stay we would feel refreshed and ready to pack our bags and make our way to the Munich airport for our 2 flights needed to return home to Florida.

The Jagdhof’s friendly hospitality began as soon as we arrived. Our luggage was unloaded and our car parked in their underground parking garage while we were registering. Having arrived early, we were offered welcome drinks and lunch while our room was made ready. Afterwards we were shown the new features that had been added to the hotel since our last visit and then we were taken to our room where our luggage was waiting in the foyer.

The hotel has 105 rooms and suites and we have stayed in three different suites, this time we booked a Dream Suite. It is decorated in a classic modern style in shades of brown, grey and black with wooden floors and built in cabinetry and individually controlled air conditioning. The living area has a comfortable sofa, armchair, desk and a large flat screen TV. The open yet separate bedroom can be closed off with sliding pocket doors and has a kingsize bed and another TV. The mattress was extremely comfortable and when we made a special request for two extra feather pillows for the bed, they were immediately brought to the room. The bathroom has both a bathtub with a starry sky ceiling, a shower and there is a separate WC. A balcony runs the entire length of the suite.

You can enjoy first class meals in five different dining rooms. From the breakfast buffet to the lunch snack to 5-6 course dinner menu, nothing is missing and the meals are part of the “all inclusive” room rate. If you are looking for the perfect wine for dinner, the sommelier is most happy to help you decide which wine will be perfect for your evening meal.

The food is incredibly delicious and the selection of healthy dishes is impressive. What could be better than to start the day with a plentiful breakfast and end with a delicious gala evening meal. Each evening Mr. Ritzinger would stop by our table to inquire if we were enjoying our meal.

During our stay, there was a beautifully prepared appetizer buffet with all kinds of wonderful appetizers to start our Friday evening meal. On Saturday evening, there was a sensational dessert buffet including a chocolate fountain, On Sunday there was a 5-course gala dinner,,,every dish was perfect.  The dinner menu has several choices in each category. In addition, there is a salad and dessert buffet as well as a cheese board. After dinner, many of the guests headed to the lounge for after dinner drinks and to listen to live music.

The wellness area is huge and everything from relaxing massages and facial treatments to yoga classes and relaxing sauna experiences are offered, there seems to be something for every taste. There is also a Lady’s Spa with its own relaxation room and its own saunas. The new sports area is very impressive and must be a real dream for athletes and sports fans as nothing seems to be missing. Depending on your taste and mood each day, you can either totally chill out in one of the lovely relaxation rooms, be pampered in the Beauty Schlössl or improve your fitness while working out with a professional trainer.

The Jagdhof makes a good base for exploring not only the Bavarian Forest but also picturesque cities along the Danube River such as the lively town of Passau. The town is beautiful with lots of little alleys and colorfully painted houses. Perched high above is the Veste Oberhaus, one of the largest and best preserved castle complexes in Europe.

From the lovely large rooms and excellent food to the spacious and beautiful wellness area, the Jagdhof Wellness Hotel is a place where we know we can relax together and recharge our batteries. When everyone around you is heading off to overcrowded cities filled with tourists, perhaps you should considered the tranquility of a wellness hotel such as the Jagdhof, one of Germany’s best hotels.

  1. I have to say, you really know how to travel, Karen — and this is definitely the way to end a trip. I have really enjoyed “tagging along” with you these past several weeks. Thanks!

  2. Another fabulous hotel and scenery! What a great ending to your holidays. I have heard of the Bavarian Forrest – I shared a flat (many decades ago) with a mad Bavarian girl in Barcelona. Her father was a pork butcher and she always brought us back the most amazing Bavarian charcuterie when she went home to visit her parents.

  3. Another beautiful hotel in Europe to check out! Thanks Karen! You always travel first class and your choice of hotels and cities are excellent with superb amenities and cuisine. Thanks for sharing!
